The full checklist

Read the sequence before starting. Follow each step only when its preparation and branch conditions are met.

  1. Inspect the visible drain hose for kinks or pinching without moving the washer or undoing a connection. Refer inaccessible or damaged routing to an installer.

    Source: LG WM4000H*A / WM4080H*A Owner’s Manual · pp. 13, 40, 44
  2. Where safely visible, compare endpoint height with the installation limits: 24–96 inches (61–244 cm) above the washer bottom; best results at no more than 66 inches (168 cm). Have an installer assess uncertain height or an airtight drain connection.

    Source: LG WM4000H*A / WM4080H*A Owner’s Manual · pp. 13, 40, 44
  3. Use the separate drain-filter task only after its unplugging, cooling and residual-water precautions are met. Do not unscrew the filter from this external inspection task.

    Source: LG WM4000H*A / WM4080H*A Owner’s Manual · pp. 13, 40, 44
  4. After complete filter maintenance or a qualified routing correction, observe a normal drain with the washer assembled and the area dry. Stop for renewed OE or leakage and seek service.

When to stop

  • Smoke, a burning smell, damaged wiring, standing water near power, or an active leak: stop using the appliance. Disconnect power only from a safe, dry location and arrange qualified service.
  • Stop if a part is damaged, jammed, sharp, inaccessible, or does not match your manual. Do not force parts or remove a cabinet panel.
Every check and possible next step

Start at “Is OE displayed or has water failed to drain?”. Choose only what you observed. An unobserved condition is its own answer.

Is OE displayed or has water failed to drain?

Is OE displayed or has water failed to drain?

Keep a locked door closed and avoid hot drainage water. An OE message alone does not identify a failed pump.

  • The drain completed and OE is absent
Next action recorded — The observed condition does not call for further action in this task, or a different task is more appropriate. Keep the observation in your record; do not infer a failed component.
  • OE or retained water was observed
Continue to Is the visible drain hose free of pinching and kinks?.
  • I have not checked this yet
Observation still needed — Your notes are saved. The missing observation is not evidence of a fault or a completed action. Complete only the steps you can perform safely, or ask for help.

Is the visible drain hose free of pinching and kinks?

Is the visible drain hose free of pinching and kinks?

Observe without moving the washer or disconnecting the hose. Have an installer address inaccessible or damaged routing.

Steps for this check: 1.

  • The visible route is clear
Continue to Does the visible endpoint match the installation limits?.
  • A kink, pinch or damaged route is visible
Pause and arrange qualified help — Keep the appliance out of use if a safety concern remains. Give the technician the exact model, the visible symptom and any displayed code. Do not open the cabinet or make electrical measurements.
  • The route is not visible
Observation still needed — Your notes are saved. The missing observation is not evidence of a fault or a completed action. Complete only the steps you can perform safely, or ask for help.

Does the visible endpoint match the installation limits?

The manual specifies 24–96 inches (61–244 cm) above the washer bottom, with best results at no more than 66 inches (168 cm). Do not move the washer to measure; no airtight seal at the drain.

Steps for this check: 2.

  • Accessible routing is within the manual limits
Continue to Has the separate drain-filter procedure been completed safely?.
  • Height is outside the limits or the connection is airtight
Pause and arrange qualified help — Keep the appliance out of use if a safety concern remains. Give the technician the exact model, the visible symptom and any displayed code. Do not open the cabinet or make electrical measurements.
  • Height or connection cannot be confirmed
Observation still needed — Your notes are saved. The missing observation is not evidence of a fault or a completed action. Complete only the steps you can perform safely, or ask for help.

Has the separate drain-filter procedure been completed safely?

Has the separate drain-filter procedure been completed safely?

Open the filter only in its own task after unplugging, cooling and draining residual water. Record an installer correction instead if one was needed.

Steps for this check: 3.

  • Filter maintenance or a qualified external correction is complete
Continue to What happened on the next drain after correction?.
  • Filter access or maintenance cannot be completed safely
Pause and arrange qualified help — Keep the appliance out of use if a safety concern remains. Give the technician the exact model, the visible symptom and any displayed code. Do not open the cabinet or make electrical measurements.
  • That maintenance or correction is still pending
Observation still needed — Your notes are saved. The missing observation is not evidence of a fault or a completed action. Complete only the steps you can perform safely, or ask for help.

What happened on the next drain after correction?

What happened on the next drain after correction?

With parts refitted and the area dry, observe drainage. A persistent OE message needs qualified help.

Steps for this check: 4.

  • Drain completed without OE or leakage
Result recorded — You recorded the task result from your own observation. Keep the before and after notes and recheck during normal use. This record does not certify the appliance condition.
  • OE, retained water or leakage remains
Pause and arrange qualified help — Keep the appliance out of use if a safety concern remains. Give the technician the exact model, the visible symptom and any displayed code. Do not open the cabinet or make electrical measurements.
  • Another drain has not been observed
Observation still needed — Your notes are saved. The missing observation is not evidence of a fault or a completed action. Complete only the steps you can perform safely, or ask for help.
